That's basically art. So AI's only really good at producing art. So we're safe... but now I feel bad for the artists.



Depends on your audience. One of the things that stuck in my mind from my sculpture degree was a tutor's contention that plenty of (visual) artists produce "things that look like art" but aren't worthy of the name. Subjective, yes, but I knew exactly what she meant. The current generation of AI by definition only produces entirely derivative works. All artists are influenced to some extent by their visual history, whether they like it or not, but there are leaps that some of them make which I don't think anything which works solely on previously-generated work could make, and those tend to be the most interesting. (Although I'd agree that artists who really lean into derivation, like Andy Warhol or Hans Haacke, are also interesting).
